How this calculator works
We start from your gross salary and other income, subtract the standard deduction (₹75,000 in the new regime, ₹50,000 in the old), and — only for the old regime — the deductions you enter, within their legal caps. Then we apply each regime’s slabs, the Section 87A rebate, any surcharge and the 4% health and education cess.

Frequently asked questions
Which tax regime is better for me?
It depends on your deductions. The new regime has lower rates and a larger rebate; the old regime allows deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home-loan interest. Enter your numbers above to compare both.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free under the new regime?
For FY 2025-26, resident individuals with taxable income up to ₹12 lakh get a rebate under Section 87A that brings tax to zero under the new regime. Salaried people also get a ₹75,000 standard deduction, so salary up to about ₹12.75 lakh can be tax-free. Special-rate income such as capital gains is treated differently.
